North Winchester Street & California Street Reconstruction Informational Meeting

North Winchester Street & California Street Reconstruction Informational Meeting

There will be an informational meeting Wednesday, May 3 at 5:30 p.m. at Whitcomb Hall, 17 Main Street, regarding the reconstruction of North Winchester and California Streets. Project engineers will be present to provide an overview of the project and project alternatives recommended by the North Winchester / California Street Reconstruction Advisory Committee.

In 2022, the Town of Swanzey applied for a $1 million grant through the Northern Borders Regional Commission to reconstruct North Winchester and California Streets from the Thompson Covered Bridge to Rt. 10. The project scope includes reconstruction of both streets, addressing drainage issues, and providing sidewalk and other pedestrian improvements with a total estimated cost of $2 million. The Town was awarded a grant of $306,254.25, leaving a funding deficit of just under $700,000. Other funding sources are being explored, but if more money is not identified the project’s scope will need to be modified to lower the total cost.

Following the presentation, members of the public are encouraged to share feedback on the proposed project and complete a survey about the project and proposed alternatives.

Questions about the project may be directed to the Director of Public Works, Joe DiRusso at (603) 352-7116.
