Rail Trails Advisory Committee

Mission Statement
The Rail-Trails Advisory Committee is charged with making recommendations to the Board of Selectmen on the options for use, maintenance, fundraising, and other matters, as requested by the Board, for the two rail-trail corridors in Swanzey, namely the Ashuelot Line and the Cheshire Line.   The Committee shall have no independent power or authority to commit town financial resources (including those held in trust by the town) or to enter into contracts without the specific written authorization of the Board.

The Committee shall submit (at a minimum) a yearly report to the Board with its recommendations as to use, fundraising and grant opportunities, ways to garner community support, and to address other concerns as may be requested by the Board; said report to be filed by November 1st.

It is hereby acknowledged that the Ashuelot Rail-Trail Line and the Cheshire Rail-Trail line are owned by the New Hampshire and managed by the Trails Bureau at the New Hampshire Department of Resources and Economic Development, Division of Parks & Recreation.  Any and all work, decisions rendered, plans adopted, etc. by the Town of Swanzey must be reviewed and approved by the Trails Bureau or its successor.
