Health Officer
The Health Officer and the Board of Selectmen constitute the local Board of Health. The role of the Board is to evaluate the public and environmental health of the town of Swanzey and to pass local health ordinances as allowed in RSA 147:1.
The three primary functions of the Health Officer are:
To enforce applicable NH laws and administrative rules, as well as local ordinances and regulations enacted by the Town of Swanzey.- To serve as a liaison between state officials, local elected officials, and the Town of Swanzey on issues concerning local environmental and public health.
- To be a leader and active participant in efforts to develop regional environmental and public health capacities.
Food Pantries
Recently, the NH Food Bank based out of Manchester, shared new mandatory rules to these pantries where certain requirements need to be met. Swanzey is not a self-inspecting town when it comes to food or restaurants. In fact, it involves a whole set of regulations that we do not deal with-the section of DHHS under Food Protection does. For food licensing or an inspection of a pantry to meet these regulations, organizations should contact Justin McMath, Food Program Supervisor, NH Food Protection Office at 603-271-5299 or email Justin.L.McMath@dhhs.nh.gov.
Food Trucks
Food trucks are inspected by the Swanzey Fire Department. Food truck operators are encouraged to visit NFPA Fact Sheet.
